Obituary

Billy James Minor was born May 17, 1954 in Detroit, Michigan to Mary Elizabeth Douglas and
Obie James Minor. He was the third oldest of six children and although life was tough at times
there was always love among them. Billy accepted Christ early in his life, even though he did not
grow up in the church. He was extremely kind and had a very loving spirit, although he was
known to be a bit stubborn.
As a young man, Billy grew up in southwest Detroit and attended Southwestern High School.
Growing up in Motown, music was of course especially important to him and singing was his
passion, and boy he could SING! He could always be found singing and harmonizing to The
Temptations, The Miracles, The Dramatics just to name a few. He, along with his high school
classmates, formed various singing groups. They performed at recreational centers and high
school talents shows around the Detroit area, which they often won. He went on to learn the
welding trade which led to work at Chrysler, Ford Motor companies, among others.
Family and friends of Billy knew him as the ice breaker of the family. He would often break the
ice with a kind word or offer of food at many gatherings. He also was known to be a jokester.
He loved to laugh and make others laugh too. Later in his life he moved to Toledo, Ohio to get
back on track and serve God in the ministry of helping the needy and poor. He became a faithful
member of the Toledo Restoration Church.
Sadly, on March 8, 2021, Billy made his final transition and proceeding him in death were his
parents Mary Elizabeth Douglas and Obie James Minor. One sister Marcia Parham.
Billy leaves to cherish his memory: His oldest child and only daughter LaMonique (Marcia), and
his only son Brian (Roslyn). Two sisters: Brenda, Mary ‘Pookie’ (Michael), Two brothers: Mark
(Brenda ‘Tootie’ deceased), Joseph Douglas.
Nieces and Nephews: Fran (David), David Jr (Nicole), LaShon, Marcia (deceased), DeAngelo,
Devon, Antoine (deceased), Domonique, Ashley, Michael Jr., Ethan, Emma, Quinn, Jesus, and
Victoria. Along with a host of paternal and maternal family, cousins and friends who will long
keep a kind memory Billy in their hearts.
