Norris Solomon Obituary

Norris "Gary" Solomon, age 77 of Toledo Ohio, passed away on April 6th, 2024, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. He is survived by his daughter Heather, brother Benjamin (Sally), sister Ellen (Terry), nephew Joseph (Lucia), great niece Ally and great nephew Lukey. He was preceded in death by his mother Ruth, father Harold, and former wife Kathleen.

Gary was a Patriot who faithfully served our country during the Vietnam era in the Navy as a Petty Officer 2nd class aboard the USS John R. Perry (DE 1034).

He was an excellent musician, prolific songwriter and great guitar teacher. He sang and played piano, banjo, ukulele and harmonica. Music would always be an important part of his life and throughout the years was involved in different incarnations of duos, trios, bands and also a solo act.

He had a deep faith in Christianity beginning with his conversion on January 2nd, 2000, and his first act in his new "born again life" was to share the Gospel with his Daughter Heather, who was baptized the very next day on January 3rd, 2000. He was  especially devoted to writing many beautiful Christian songs.  He was a very fine artist and sign maker (some of his signs are still In in use more than 20 years from their original commission). in his earlier years he was a Graduate of Devilbiss High School, acting in Deviltries talent show and Guys and  Dolls play, and later in Community Theatre.

He was a history buff, a lover of nature, had a great fondness for cats, and took great care of his many feline friends. He was a defender of Creation truth which led him to co-author the book "The Demise of Darwinism" with his friend Dr Mel Mulder.

He had a larger-than-life personality and same size heart to match.  He was a deeply devoted Father and the best Brother anyone could have. In his last moments he was at peace and ready to surrender his care to Jesus. He will be deeply missed.

Private Services will be held in his honor. The family wishes to thank Promedica Toledo Hospital and Hospice of Northwest Ohio for their exceptional care and kindness.
