Vater Webb Obituary

Vater D. Webb, age 79, of Graytown, Ohio passed away Monday October 10, 2022, at Mercy St. Charles Hospital.  Vater was born May 18, 1943, to Clayton and Thelma (Dunn) Webb in Knoxville, Tennessee.

In addition to his parents, Vater was preceded in death by sisters:  Charlotte (Jack, also deceased) Harding; and Delores Jean Tull; and infant brother Edward and an infant sister.

Vater is survived by:  the love of his life and wife of 58 years, Ruby; sons David Webb; Dean (Vicki) Webb; daughter Denise (Jeff Ott) Webb; granddaughters:  Ashley Webb; Meagan (Mitchell) Miles; Chelsea (Jordan) Smith; Devan-Jade (Jake Stover) Webb; Bernice (David Tripp) Alliman; namesake, Vata Alliman; and step grandsons Andy Bowman and Dylan Ott.  Vater is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Vater faithfully served his country in the United States Marine Corps and United States Air Force.  He worked as a Machine Repairman at Libbey Glass for 42 years.  He also served as a Deputy Sheriff on the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department; and as Chief of Police for the Village of Rocky Ridge and then the Village of Clay Center.  He was also former Zoning Inspection for Benton Township and Rocky Ridge.

Vater was very active in Freemasonry.  He was a Past Worshipful Master of Paragon Lodge #788 F&AM, Past High Priest of Oak Harbor Chapter #162 RAM, Genoa Council # 138 RSM and EuTah Commandery #66 KT.  Vater served as Eminent Prior of Ohio Priory #18 Knights of the York Cross of Honor in 2020.  He was a member of Valley of Toledo Scottish Rite; Zenobia Shrine; Portage Council AMD; Holy Royal Arch Knight Templar Priests: Blackstone York Rite College; East Toledo High Twelve.  He was an honorary member of Toledo, Norwalk, Erie, Fremont, St. Omer, Fostoria, Lafayette Lyttle Commanderies.  He was a Past Division Commander and Past Deputy Division Commander of the Sixth Division KT of Ohio.  Vater was a Past Arch Adjutant for the 1st Arch RSM of Ohio and was the Grand Representative to Colorado.  He served many years as an Advisor to DeMolay and was a recipient of the DeMolay Honorary Legion of Honor.  He also had other numerous memberships and titles.

Visitation will be held on Sunday October 16, 2022, from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with Masonic services at 7:00 PM, with Commandery Honor Guard at 6:00 PM, at Paragon Masonic Lodge located at 24845 W. State Route 51, Millbury, Ohio 43447. Funeral services will be held on Monday October 17, 2022, at 11:00 AM, also at Paragon Masonic Lodge.
