Sue Ann Strasel, 75, passed away Sunday, October 8, 2023 in her home in Toledo, Ohio. Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Ethel Sue (Katschke) Strasel.
Sue was a graduate of Edward Drummond Libbey High School and Mercy College of Nursing.
Sue was a devoted mother to her son Daniel, dedicated nurse and community activist. Sue served as a nurse at St. Vincent and Mercy hospitals, and was a member of the Nurses Honor Guard of NW Ohio and Nurses Association, Historic St John's Evangelist. Lutheran Church, and St. Lucas and Paul Lutheran church.
Sue was a fierce defender of the legacy of Edward Drummond Libbey High School, designed by Edwin Gee, built in 1923.
Sue helped lead the fight to save the historic Libbey High School building from the wrecking ball. She was instrumental in its listing on The National Register of Historic Places. and called for the preservation and digitization of artifacts stored at TPS, the school year book and newspaper; The Eduardian (SP), and Crystal.
Sue was co-founder of the Toledo Edward Drummond Libbey Crystal Awards, life-time member of The Libbey High School Alumni Association, member of the Libbey Lunch Bunch, foundling member of the 2023-2024 Historic Edward Drummond Libbey High School Centennial Alliance, Nurse Honor Guard of Northwest Ohio, the Nurses Association, union supporter, provided pastoral care to the ill, longtime board member of Boomers, supporter of the annual Florence Scott Libbey 5k.
She is survived by her son Daniel Strasel and his wife Danna (FL), three sisters, five grandchildren, nephews and a niece.
Sue will always be a cowboy.
