Hassan M. Shakir age 75 passed away Monday, November 6, 2023, at his residence Alpha Towers Apartments in Toledo, Ohio.
John H. Bland Jr (Hassan M. Shakir} was born on May 22nd, 1948, to the late John H. Bland Sr, and Nannie B. Murphy in Barnesville Georgia. He was the third oldest of seven children born to this union. Hassan attended the Pontiac school system.
Hassan accepted Christ at an early age. He and his brother Adib converted to the Islamic faith during the late sixty’s early seventies during Hassan young adult years, he moved from Pontiac MI, and lived in several states before settling in Toledo, Ohio. Hassan loved talking about current events, politics, Donald Trump, the stock market, and Generation Z. Hassan had a memory like an elephant he remembered all his childhood experiences and enjoyed sharing them. Hassan was so happy Adib had gotten to travel to Saudi Arabia for two weeks last January. He thought someday he would have the same opportunity to travel to Mecca. Hassan was devastated by the sudden passing of his brother Adib on June 21st, 2023. Prayerfully their spirits reconnected and have found their resting place.
Hassan leaves to cherish his memory: his siblings, Martha (Ivan) Putnam of Auburn Hills, MI. Elder Larry Bland Pontiac MI, Brenda (Joel) Johnson of White Lake, MI, two aunts; Patricia Sullivan and Annie B. {James} Perry; and a host nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Mr. Shakir was preceded in death by his wife; Wanda Bland, parents; John Bland and Nannie Murphy, grandparents; Obie and Carrie Smith; grandmother; Mamie Nivins and step-grandfather; Joe Frank Nivins, siblings; Billy Bland, Adib Shakir and Ann Bland.
Visitation will be held at Perry Mount Park Cemetery, 878 Perry Street, Pontiac, MI 48340 on Saturday, November 18, 2023, from 11:00 A.M. until the time of the celebration of life ceremony at 11:30 A.M.
