Eugene Tomaszewski Sr. Obituary

IN LOVING MEMORY FOREVER IN OUR HEARTS

Eugene Tomaszewski SR., 87 of Monclova, Ohio passed away peacefully on October 18, 2025. Before his passing, he left a card behind full of love to his wife of 67 years in honor of Sweetest Day.

Eugene was born on June 8, 1938, in Swanton, Ohio. He worked for a farmer picking potatoes, a caddy at the Heatherdowns Country Club, Kroger's, Campbell Soup, Wonder Bread, Toledo Stamping, and lastly worked in 70's at Nicholson's Concrete. Eugene’s love of farming and of farm machinery motivated him to achieve his auctioneer license in 1962 as an independent auctioneer, doing estates, probate and bankruptcy court auctions. Eugene also worked with Yoder & Frey Inc. Farm Machinery Auction in Archbold, Ohio for several years. Eugene traveled with other auctioneers out of state to Pennsylvania, Indiana, Tennessee and Michigan. He later created Tomaszewski Country Realty & Auction, Inc., a family business, with the support of his wife, children, and grandchildren.

His life revolved around his love for his family, and the joy of his grandchildren and friends. A longtime member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Parish. He will be remembered for his beautiful blue eyes and his contagious smile, especially when he won a round of 500 Rummy. His favorite memories were the trips he took to Hawaii, Florida and Tennessee. He was very sociable and loved to share stories and knowledge of unique items. He loved his old cars, tractors, and antiques. Through auctions, Eugene raised money for charities and volunteered his time giving back to the community.

He was always ready to help his neighbors, especially during the blizzard of 1978, by pulling people out of the ditches and cleaning their driveways on his Massey Ferguson tractor. He stayed out all day and night snowplowing.

Eugene had a green thumb and enjoyed planting his vegetable gardens, flower gardens, trees, and farming. He loved to tinker and fix things, making lawn carts and buggy seats. He was a very talented man who loved working with tools. He always kept himself busy as a handyman and will be remembered as a hard worker who never complained about work, he loved to do.

Eugene is survived by wife Evelyn (Block) Tomaszewski; sister, Margie (Tomaszewski) Pfaff; daughters, Debbie Tomaszewski and Jackie Tomaszewski; son, Jim Tomaszewski; daughter-in-law, Mona Tomaszewski; son-in-law, Kevin Kmiec; grandchildren, Christina (Kmiec) Egan (Mark), Patrick Kmiec, Jason (Shania) Tomaszewski, Matthew (Rachel) Tomaszewski; great-grandchildren, Connor, Riley and Owen Egan, Jackson Tomaszewski; sister-in-law, Anna (James) Block, and many other extended family and friends.

Eugene was preceded in death by son Eugene Michael Tomaszewski Jr.; his parents, Joseph and Helen (Michalkiewicz) Tomaszewski; his-in-laws; Edward and Agnes (Brainard) Block, brother-in-law’s, John Pfaff, Edward Block, Charles Block, and George Block; and sister-in-law Eileen (Plewa) Block.
