Carolyn McAulay, age 66, passed away on March 25, 2026, after a long illness, surrounded by loved ones. She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Mary McAulay and her beloved daughter, Christie (Cricket) Powell.
Carolyn was raised in Point Place but she lived most of her adult life in the St. Louis, MO area. As a talented cook, she worked in several restaurants over the years but she will be especially remembered for her chicken noodle soup, a dish so comforting and special that people would travel from far and wide just to enjoy it. Sharing food was her way of sharing love, and she did so generously.
Carolyn returned to Toledo in 2016 and was able to spend her final years with her family.
She is survived by her daughter, Shannon (Tyrone) Burks, and her son, Doug (Dawn) Kizer. She was a proud ‘Granny’ to Sheyanne, Colt, and Ethan Boyd, Zachary Powell, Mikey, Jazmin, Miley, and Jake Kizer and Avery Smith. She is also survived by her loving sisters, Barb Cannon and LuLu Latta, as well as her nieces and nephews, Mike Cannon, Bill (Jenni) Cannon, and Molly ‘Shortie’ (Brandon) Chaffin, and lifelong friend, Karen Holycross, all of whom held a special place in her heart.
Carolyn will be remembered for her warmth, her strength, her sense of humor, and the way she made everyone feel welcome. She was deeply loved by many and will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Habegger Funeral Services. Interment will be private at a later date.
The family would like to thank the kind and compassionate staff at Gardens of St. Francis and Sincera Hospice for their care and support.
A Celebration of Life for Carolyn will be held on Sunday, March 29th at 4:00 PM at The Gardens of St. Francis, 930 S. Wynn Road, Oregon, Ohio 43616.
